ABOUT

MILA berge

Mila Berge is a Dutch interdisciplinary artist who explores the encounter between natural and industrial materials making structures as simple as possible while expressing multiple ideas. Trying to push the boundaries between the viewer, object and site and consequently that between man and nature. She studied art history in Milan, Italy and worked at Christie’s Amsterdam as an art expert from 1995-2003. She studied art at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, focusing on life drawing, painting and sculpture. Having lived in many different countries (Netherlands, Italy, Thailand, Angola, Kuwait, United States and Kazakhstan)her work is influenced by the social and spiritual function of different cultures, landscapes and people. She seeks to stir associations, ideas and memories from the realms of the physical and the non physical. Her juxtaposition between light, shadow, color, space and choice of material punctuates her signature style. Mila believes her artworks are metaphors, making the abstract concrete and mystifying the mundane.
